What is Krypto the Superdog About?
The story begins on the planet Krypton, which is about to be destroyed. Superman's father, Jor-El, puts a white puppy named Krypto into a spaceship. This was a test flight to see if the ship was safe for space travel. But Krypto accidentally broke some wires. This made the ship put him into a deep sleep. The ship then flew all the way to Earth.
When Krypto landed on Earth, he was a grown-up dog. He had superpowers just like Superman! This is because all living things from Krypton get powers from Earth's yellow sun.
A 9-year-old boy named Kevin Whitney adopted Krypto. Superman arranged this because he was too busy saving the world. Krypto pretends to be a normal dog when he lives with Kevin's family. But he has a secret identity as Krypto the Superdog for his hero work. Kevin knows Krypto's secret, but the rest of his family does not. Kevin lives next door to Andrea, who takes care of Streaky.
In the show, all the animals, including Krypto, can talk to each other. But they cannot talk to humans, except for Kevin and Andrea. Kevin and Andrea can understand the animals because they wear a special device. It is called an intergalactic communicator. Viewers can always understand the animals, especially when Krypto and Streaky talk to the camera.
Who are Krypto's Friends and Enemies?
Krypto has many animal friends who help him. His main allies are Streaky the Supercat, Ace the Bat-Hound, and Stretch-O-Mutt. Together, they fight against different animal villains.
Some of the villains they face include:
- Ignatius, who is Lex Luthor's pet iguana.
- Bud and Lou, who are Joker's pet hyenas.
- The Bad News Birds, who are Penguin's trained birds.
- Isis, who is Catwoman's cat.
Krypto also teams up with a group of alien dog superheroes. They are called the Dog Star Patrol. With them, Krypto fights against the evil Mechanikat. Mechanikat's helpers are Snooky Wookums and Delilah.
