Where is Kumla?
Kumla is about 15 kilometres south of a bigger city called Örebro. You can easily travel between the two by train or bus. Kumla is a bit special because it's not directly connected to any big rivers or lakes in the middle of town. However, some of Sweden's largest lakes are only about an hour's drive away!
The town is also very flat, as it sits in the middle of an area known as the Närke Plain. The land around Kumla is mostly used for farming, so you'll see lots of fields.
Getting Around Kumla
Kumla is well-connected by several roads. The major highway, E20, passes just west of the town. This road is the quickest way to reach both Gothenburg and Stockholm, which are Sweden's two biggest cities. Kumla is located roughly in the middle of these two cities.
Even though the E20 also goes past Örebro, there are other roads that connect Kumla to its larger neighbor. Roads 51 (coming from Norrköping) and 52 (coming from Nyköping) also go through Kumla.
Kumla also has its own train station. It's part of the main train route that connects Stockholm and Gothenburg, operated by SJ.
A Look Back in Time
Kumla has a cool history, especially known for making shoes! This tradition goes all the way back to the early 1800s. You can learn all about it at the Shoe Industry Museum in Kumla. They even have a small workshop where they still make shoes!
Kumla officially became a city in 1942. Later, in 1971, it became the main town for the larger Kumla Municipality.
