Kunanalling: A Gold Rush Ghost Town

Kunanalling is a fascinating example of a town that boomed and then faded away. It was once a busy place. Today, it is mostly ruins. This makes it a "ghost town."

The Story of Kunanalling

In 1895, gold was found in this area. People who search for gold are called prospectors. They discovered the precious metal here. At first, the place was known as 25 mile. This name came from its distance from Coolgardie.

The local goldfields warden suggested creating a townsite. This would help organize the growing number of people. The town was also called Connanalling for a short time. However, the Lands Department changed the spelling. They officially named it Kunanalling in 1896.

By early 1898, Kunanalling was a busy place. It had a population of 360 people. Later, the town grew even more. Its population reached about 800 people. This shows how quickly gold discoveries could make towns grow.

What Remains Today?

Today, Kunanalling is no longer a lively town. But you can still see parts of its past. The ruins of an old hotel are there. You can also find three chimneys standing. These structures are reminders of the town's gold rush days. They show where people lived and worked long ago.
