Kuo Yuan Ye (Chinese: 郭元益食品; pinyin: Guōyuányì) is a famous chain of pastry stores in Taiwan. They are well-known for making delicious pastries. These tasty treats are made using special skills that have been passed down through many generations.
A Sweet History
The story of Kuo Yuan Ye began a long time ago. In 1708, the Kuo family traveled from their home in Fujian, China. They crossed the Taiwan Strait and arrived in what is now Taipei.
Then, in 1867, a man named Kuo Liang-chen started a pastry business. He built a small shop in Shilin, Taipei. He named his shop "Yuan Ye" to remember his family's old home.
From that small shop, Kuo Yuan Ye grew a lot. It became famous for keeping Taiwanese traditions alive. They also became known for making beautiful and delicious pastries. Some of their most popular items include wedding gift boxes, bride cakes, pineapple cakes, and moon cakes. They also make many other kinds of Taiwanese pastries.
The First Cake Museum
To help everyone learn about the history of Taiwanese pastries, Kuo Yuan Ye did something special. In 2001, they opened the first museum dedicated to cakes and pastries. It is called the Kuo Yuan Ye Museum of Cake and Pastry.
This museum shows how Taiwanese pastries and cakes have changed over time. It also teaches about the customs and traditions of pastries. For example, how they are used in weddings, festivals, and other important life events. Visitors to the museum can even try making Taiwanese cakes and pastries themselves!
There are two branches of the museum in Taiwan. One is in Shilin District, Taipei. The other is in Yangmei District, Taoyuan City.
