La'Vere Lawrence Corbin-Ong (born 22 April 1991) is a professional football player. He plays for the Malaysia Super League club Johor Darul Ta'zim. He also plays for the Malaysia national team.

La'Vere mainly plays as a left-back. This means he defends on the left side of the field. He can also play as a centre-back (in the middle of defense) or a left-midfielder. He is well-known for his long throw-ins and strong defense.

La'Vere was born in England. He first played for the Canada national team. In 2019, he decided to play for Malaysia instead.

Early Life and Youth Football

La'Vere Corbin-Ong was born in London, England. His parents were studying there. His father was from Barbados, and his mother was Malaysian Chinese.

When he was one year old, his family moved to Edmonton, Canada. At age four, they moved to North Vancouver, where he grew up.

Playing Many Sports

As a child, La'Vere enjoyed many sports. He played football, lacrosse, gridiron football, and tennis. He started playing football for a team called Lynn Valley SA when he was six years old.

After high school, he played for Capilano University for one season. Then, he joined the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency program. In 2012, he planned to go to the University of British Columbia. However, he went to Europe and got a tryout with a German team, FC Pommern Greifswald.

La'Vere Corbin-Ong has played for several football clubs. He has played in Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, and Malaysia.

Playing for Vancouver Whitecaps Reserves

La'Vere spent two years with the Whitecaps Reserves team. He played 29 games for them in 2010 and 2011. The team was part of the Premier Development League.

Time in Germany

On 2 July 2012, La'Vere moved to Germany. He joined Pommern Greifswald, a team in the fifth tier league. He played there for two seasons. He scored his first goal for the club in March 2013.

In July 2014, he moved to Berliner AK 07. This was a fourth-tier German club. He played 64 games for them over two seasons. In March 2015, he scored the winning goal in a match. He was even named 'Man of the Match' in August 2015 for his great performance.

In June 2016, La'Vere signed with FSV Frankfurt. This team played in the 3. Liga, a higher division. He played 36 games for them.

Moving to the Netherlands

On 3 July 2017, La'Vere joined Go Ahead Eagles in the Netherlands. This team played in the Eerste Divisie. He played his first game for them in August 2017. However, he had some injuries during his time there. He made 10 appearances in total for the club.

Success with Johor Darul Ta'zim

On 24 November 2017, La'Vere joined Malaysian Super League club Johor Darul Ta'zim. His mother is from Malaysia, so he was able to play as a local player.

He made his debut for the club in February 2018. He helped his team win by assisting a goal. In May, he scored his first goal for the club. He has played many important matches for them, including in the 2019 AFC Champions League.

In April 2022, he assisted two goals in a big 5–0 win. In March 2023, he scored two goals in one game for the first time in his career. This helped his team win 7–0. He has played over 120 games for Johor Darul Ta'zim, scoring 5 goals.

La'Vere has played for two different national teams.

Playing for Canada

In March 2017, La'Vere was called up to the Canada national team. He played his first international game as a substitute. It was a friendly match against Scotland that ended in a 1–1 draw.

Playing for Malaysia

In June 2019, La'Vere made his debut for the Malaysia national team. He was allowed to switch teams because his game for Canada was only a friendly match.

He scored his first goal for Malaysia on 7 June 2019. It was during a FIFA World Cup Qualifier match against Timor-Leste. Malaysia won that game 7–1.

He scored another important goal in June 2022. This goal helped Malaysia win 3–1 against Turkmenistan in an AFC Asian Cup qualification match. In September 2022, he scored against Thailand in the King's Cup.

La'Vere also played for Malaysia in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup in Qatar. He played in all of Malaysia's group stage matches.
