La Ametralladora (which means Machine Gun in Spanish) was a funny magazine. It came out every week between 1937 and 1939. This magazine was given to the Nationalist soldiers. They were fighting in the Spanish Civil War.

History of the Magazine

La Ametralladora started in 1937. It was made during the Civil War in Spain. The magazine was for the Nationalist fighters. These soldiers supported Francisco Franco. He later became the leader of Spain.

Miguel Mihura was the editor of this weekly magazine. Another artist named Tono also helped create the magazine. Tono was the pen name for Antonio Lara de Gavilán.

There was another magazine that was its rival. It was called L'Esquella de la Torratxa. That magazine was for the Republican side. La Ametralladora stopped being published in 1939. This was when the Civil War ended. After it closed, a new funny magazine called La Codorniz took its place.
