The Famous La Calahorra Castle
Just outside La Calahorra, you can find the amazing Castillo de La Calahorra. This castle is located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
It was built a long time ago, between 1509 and 1512. What makes it special is that it was one of the very first castles built in the Italian Renaissance style outside of Italy!
Protecting the Night Sky
La Calahorra wants to become a special place where the sky is kept free from light pollution. This means they want to make sure the night sky stays dark. This helps people see the stars clearly.
This effort is part of a bigger project. Nearby areas like the Sierra de los Filabres and Sierra Nevada have already received "Starlight Foundation" certification. This shows they are good places for stargazing.
La Calahorra in Movies
Did you know La Calahorra has been in a movie? The town was used as the setting for the final scenes of the 1974 film Stardust. This movie starred David Essex.
