History of La Gloria
Becoming Part of the United States
After the Spanish–American War, Puerto Rico was given to the United States by Spain. This happened because of a special agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. From that time on, Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States.
Early Population Counts
In 1899, the United States government did a count of all the people in Puerto Rico. This was like a big survey to see how many people lived there. They found that La Gloria barrio, along with another barrio called Quebrada Negrito, had a total of 1,487 people living in them.
