The Town of Lac du Flambeau is a community in Vilas County, Wisconsin, United States. In 2000, about 3,004 people lived here. A big part of the town is also home to the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.
The area around Flambeau Lake is a popular spot for vacations all year. You can find the Lac du Flambeau census-designated place and the small community of Marlands within the town.

History of Lac du Flambeau
The Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa have lived in this area for a long time. They arrived in 1745, led by Chief Keeshkemun.
Later, in 1792, European-American fur traders came to Lac du Flambeau. They traded furs until about 1835.
In 1854, the Treaty of La Pointe created the Lac du Flambeau reservation. Logging, which is cutting down trees for wood, started on the reservation in 1885. Soon, the town had the biggest lumber yard in Wisconsin.
An Indian residential school, called the Government Boarding School at Lac du Flambeau, opened in 1895.
Population and People

In 2000, there were 3,004 people living in the town. They lived in 1,093 households, with 821 of those being families.
Most of the people in the town were Native American, making up about 59.39% of the population. White people made up about 39.55%. A small number of people were from other groups. About 1.60% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
About 31.7% of households had children under 18 living with them. The average household had 2.72 people. The average family had 3.07 people.
The median age in the town was 37 years old. About 29.8% of the people were under 18. About 16.8% were 65 or older.
Local Economy
The Lac du Flambeau Band has helped the local economy grow. They developed the Lake of the Torches resort and casino.
The Lac du Flambeau Band also started the LDF Business Development Program. This program helps local businesses and encourages new ones.
