Lady Gaga concert chronology |
Lady Gaga Enigma + Jazz & Piano is a special series of concerts by American singer Lady Gaga. These shows take place at the Park Theater in Las Vegas Valley, Nevada. The residency has two different kinds of shows: Enigma and Jazz & Piano.
The Enigma show is like a big play with lots of special effects. It features Lady Gaga's most famous pop songs. She wears cool sci-fi inspired outfits. The story of Enigma is about "healing and finding yourself."
The Jazz & Piano show is more elegant and classic. Lady Gaga sings songs from the Great American Songbook, which are famous old jazz tunes. She also performs her own songs in a simpler, acoustic style. For these shows, she wears glamorous outfits that remind people of the Jazz Age.
The Enigma shows started on December 28, 2018. The Jazz & Piano shows began on January 20, 2019. The concerts took a long break because of the COVID-19 pandemic. They returned to the stage on October 14, 2021. Both shows have been very popular.

About the Concerts
In December 2017, Lady Gaga announced she would have a two-year concert series in Las Vegas Valley. This special event would be at the Park Theater inside Park MGM. It was a big deal, reportedly worth a lot of money. The plan included 74 shows, with a chance to add more later.
In July 2018, some details about the show were accidentally shared online. The name "Enigma" was mentioned. On August 7, 2018, the residency was officially announced as Lady Gaga Enigma. It had 27 dates, starting in December 2018.
The announcement explained the two types of shows:
- Enigma: A "brand-new journey" of Gaga's pop hits. It was designed to be a unique experience.
- Jazz & Piano: Featured simpler versions of her songs. It also included classic tunes from the Great American Songbook.
Lady Gaga said the show would be "unlike anything I've done before." She wanted it to be a "celebration of all that is unique and different within us." She also added that "challenges of bravery can be overcome with creativity and courage."
Gaga was also busy promoting her movie, A Star is Born, around this time. This meant she had a short time to get the show ready.
Promotional Look
When the residency was announced, Lady Gaga released a special poster. It was very colorful, using bright, glowing paints. In the picture, she wore a neon green tulle dress. She also had latex gloves and a swim cap. This image was taken by famous photographers Inez and Vinoodh. Many people thought the poster looked like Gaga's style from her The Fame Monster album era. It suggested she was returning to her unique and artistic fashion.
In December 2018, Gaga shared a video from rehearsals. It showed her wearing a special suit with dots. This suit was used for motion capture, which helps create computer-generated characters. The song "Aura" played in the background.
Haus of Gaga Exhibition
In May 2019, an exhibition called Haus of Gaga: Las Vegas opened at Park MGM. It showed off 40 pieces of clothing and accessories from Gaga's own collection. This included:
- Her bodysuit from the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
- A custom Alexander McQueen lace gown from her "Alejandro" music video.
- Her famous meat dress.
Show Design
Stage and Story
The Enigma show has a loose story about "healing and finding yourself." The stage looks like a post-apocalyptic punk world. Lady Gaga helped write the story for the show. One reviewer described the story as part Wizard of Oz and part Ghost in the Shell.
Gaga wanted to include all her past hit songs. She also wanted to give them a "new feel" for a Las Vegas show. A character named Enigma is part of the show. Enigma is created using motion capture technology. Gaga said Enigma is her alter ego, like a different side of herself.
The show's designer, LeRoy Bennett, said Enigma is a journey. It's about Gaga and her Enigma character finding themselves. The show takes place in different settings, moving between virtual worlds, the past, present, and future. A large light pod floats above the stage. It looks like a spaceship or a cloud. It's meant to represent "energy beaming down to heal" Gaga.
For the Jazz & Piano show, Gaga wanted a look of "glamour and elegance." The stage features a 30-piece band in old-fashioned booths. Neon lights illuminate the stage. There's also a curtain and backdrop made of hanging crystals. LeRoy Bennett said this show was like an extension of Gaga's concerts with Tony Bennett. He called the design "simple, but beautiful." It turned the venue into a cozy jazz lounge.
Amazing Costumes
Lady Gaga worked with Nicola Formichetti to pick out all the amazing outfits for the shows.
For the Enigma show, the main idea was sci-fi. Designers like Tom Ford and Asher Levine created the looks.
- Gaga's first outfit is a sparkly silver catsuit with built-in boots. It has a black headpiece. The outfit is covered in tiny mirrors, making her look like a disco ball.
- She then changes into a leather corset with bright neon green details. She adds a black PVC jacket with her initials and neon green feathers.
- Another look is an armor-like suit with light-up panels.
- She also wears a see-through purple dress over a metallic purple bodysuit.
- For the end of the show, she wears a gold latex bodysuit with a collar that looks like wings. Some compared it to outfits from The Fifth Element or those worn by David Bowie.
For the Jazz & Piano shows, designers like Ralph Lauren and Schiaparelli created the costumes. Gaga's sister, Natali Germanotta, also helped. They used ideas from the Jazz Age, cabaret, and old Las Vegas styles.
- Gaga's first outfit is a black sequin dress with a deep V-neck. It has crystal decorations and fringes. She wears a headpiece with black spikes.
- She changes into a champagne-colored gown with over 53,000 tiny Swarovski crystals. It comes with a white feather cape.
- Later, she wears a black velvet gown with a bright pink silk cape. This look reminded some of the movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
- For the finale, Gaga wears a black lamé tuxedo jumpsuit. It has a removable tiered skirt covered in Swarovski crystals. She also wears a white tuxedo shirt, bow, and a top hat.
- Throughout the show, she wears different Jimmy Choo shoes.
- New outfits were added later, including a feathery pink dress, a black velvet top with a pink skirt and cape, a long sparkling rhinestone gown, and a sparkling tassel dress like those worn by 1920s flappers.
What Happens in the Show
Enigma Show
Gaga performing "The Fame" during Enigma (top), and singing "La Vie en rose" at her Jazz & Piano show (bottom).
The Enigma show lasts about two hours.
- It begins with an introduction from Enigma. This is a motion capture character who is Lady Gaga's alter ego.
- Soon, Gaga appears in a sparkly jumpsuit. She is hanging from the ceiling and plays a keytar while singing "Just Dance".
- After she lands on stage, Gaga and her dancers perform "Poker Face" and "LoveGame".
- She then meets Enigma, who tells her about the future through a simulation.
After a short break, Gaga returns in a bright suit and a manga-inspired wig. She performs "Dance in the Dark" and "Beautiful, Dirty, Rich". She takes off her jacket and plays a special instrument that combines a keyboard and guitar. She sings "The Fame."
After "Telephone" and "Applause", Gaga realizes that in the simulation, paparazzi are dangerous. She performs "Paparazzi" while inside a cage that looks like an orb. But the paparazzi catch her, and she sings "Aura".
The third part of the show starts with Gaga riding a giant mechanical robot. She wears a light-up futuristic catsuit and sings "Scheiße". There are also cool fire effects. The song changes to "Judas", where Gaga plays a long electric guitar solo. Later, she sings "Government ..." with updated lyrics. After that, Gaga covers David Bowie's "I'm Afraid of Americans" while standing at a round keyboard.
After another break, Enigma tells Gaga she needs to heal. Then, "The Edge of Glory" and "Alejandro" are performed, with Gaga in a purple outfit. Gaga sits at a piano at the end of the stage to sing "Million Reasons" and "You and I". Her guitarists join her.
The last part of the show opens with "Bad Romance". Gaga performs in a cream latex suit on the catwalk. Her dancers perform on the main stage. Enigma tells Gaga it's time to leave, but Gaga wants to perform one last time. "Born This Way" follows. After Gaga and her team leave the stage, she returns to sing "Shallow" on her piano as the final song.
Jazz & Piano Show
The Jazz & Piano show doesn't have a big story like Enigma. Instead, it's divided into four parts. Each part starts with a costume change and a black-and-white video. In these videos, Gaga talks about her love for jazz music. She compares singing jazz to "receiving a warm hug." She also mentions artists who inspired her, like Billie Holiday and Etta James.
The show includes 16 classic jazz songs. It also features four of Gaga's own songs, but with new musical arrangements. For example, "Born This Way" is performed as a slow gospel song. "Paparazzi" is a powerful performance with the orchestra playing suspenseful music.
In 2021, Gaga added new songs to the list. These included "Mambo Italiano", inspired by her movie House of Gucci. She also added songs from her second jazz album, Love for Sale. Between songs, Gaga shares personal stories that connect to the music.
Show Success
Tickets for the shows went on sale in August 2018. Fan club members and credit card holders got early access. Then, tickets were available to everyone. Reports said that Gaga's tickets were selling better than those for other famous artists' shows in Las Vegas.
In February 2019, the first sales numbers were released. Lady Gaga earned $16 million from 11 sold-out shows. This was a very strong start for her Las Vegas residency. She earned more money at the beginning of her residency than many other famous artists had. With these earnings, Lady Gaga became the fifth woman to earn over half a billion dollars in her career from concerts. In 2019, the residency earned over $53 million.
