Lake Agnes is a beautiful mountain lake found in Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. It's a popular spot for hikers and offers amazing views of the surrounding mountains. This small lake is known for its clear water and the famous teahouse on its shore.

Exploring Lake Agnes

Lake Agnes is about 0.52 square kilometers in size. That's like 52 soccer fields! It sits high up in the mountains, making it a cool and refreshing place to visit.

How to Get There

You can reach Lake Agnes by hiking from Lake Louise. The hike is about 3.5 kilometers (2.2 miles) one way. It's a fun trail that takes you through forests and offers glimpses of the stunning scenery.

The Lake Agnes Teahouse

One of the most famous things about Lake Agnes is its historic teahouse. It's located right on the eastern shore of the lake. The teahouse is at an elevation of 2,134 meters (7,002 feet) above sea level. You can enjoy hot drinks and snacks there after your hike. It's a great place to rest and take in the views.

Hiking Trails Around the Lake

There are several exciting hiking trails around Lake Agnes.

The Big Beehive Trail

A hiking trail continues from the teahouse along the northern shore. This path eventually leads up to a viewpoint called the Big Beehive. From the top, you get incredible panoramic views of Lake Louise and the surrounding mountains. It's a bit of a climb, but totally worth it!

The Little Beehive Trail

To the east of Lake Agnes, you can find the trail to the Little Beehive. This is another fantastic viewpoint. From here, you can see the Continental Divide. The Continental Divide is like a giant line across North America. It separates rivers that flow to the Pacific Ocean from those that flow to the Atlantic or Arctic Oceans.

Mount Niblock Scramble

For more adventurous hikers, there's a challenging route up Mount Niblock. This is a "scrambling" route, meaning it involves using your hands to climb over rocks. It's found just before the trail to the Big Beehive starts its big turn. This route is for experienced hikers only.
