Lake City is a small city in Calhoun County, Iowa, United States. It was founded a long time ago, in 1856. In 2020, about 1,731 people lived there.
Even though it's called "Lake City," a fun fact is that it doesn't actually have a lake! Its town sign even says, "Everything but a Lake."

History of Lake City
Lake City got its start in 1856. It was named after a nearby stream called Lake Creek. The town grew quite a bit when the railroad arrived in 1881. This made it easier for people and goods to travel.
The city has faced some strong storms. On June 9, 1954, a powerful tornado hit the city. Another strong tornado struck Lake City on July 14, 2021.

The United States Census Bureau says that the city covers about 4.81 square miles (12.49 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the city limits.

Economy and Jobs

Stewart Memorial Community Hospital is the biggest employer in Lake City. It is a hospital with 25 beds and provides many jobs for the community.
Education in Lake City
Students in Lake City attend schools within the South Central Calhoun Community School District.
Before this, Lake City had its own school district. It later joined with other districts to form the current South Central Calhoun district.
