Lake Elmo is a city in Washington County, Minnesota, United States. It is known for its mix of city life and open farmland. In 2020, about 11,335 people lived there. By 2022, the population grew to an estimated 13,449.

Even though it's a city, much of Lake Elmo still looks like the countryside. This is because a lot of the land is used for farming. The city is growing quickly. Experts think its population could be over 21,000 by the year 2040. This growth is happening after the city was asked to create a plan for its future development.

The city of Lake Elmo gets its name from a nearby body of water, Lake Elmo. The area started with a single farm in 1852. This farm was located near what is now Manning Avenue and 30th Street. This spot is southeast of downtown Lake Elmo. It is also across the highway from the Lake Elmo Airport.

The barn on this first farm was built in 1875. It was later fixed up and turned into a house in 1998. Sadly, the original 1852 farmhouse was burned down on purpose in 2007.
