Lake Gilead is a beautiful lake in Putnam County, New York. It is located in a place called Carmel Hamlet. The lake is about 116 acres (47 ha) big. It was once known as Dean's Pond. Lake Gilead is quite deep, reaching about 120 ft (37 m) at its deepest point. It plays an important role in the water supply for New York City.

Lake Gilead and New York City's Water
Lake Gilead is a special type of lake called a controlled lake. This means its water levels are managed. It is part of the Croton Watershed. This watershed is a large area where water collects and flows into the reservoirs that supply drinking water to New York City.
