Lake Gilles is a special place in the Australian state of South Australia. It's located on the Eyre Peninsula, a large piece of land that sticks out into the ocean. This area is about 278 kilometers (about 173 miles) north-west of Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia. It's also about 35 kilometers (about 22 miles) north-east of the town of Kimba.

The area called Lake Gilles includes a large body of water also known as Lake Gilles. It also has a piece of land just south of the lake. All of this land and water is part of a special protected area called the Lake Gilles Conservation Park.

Getting There

A part of the Eyre Highway passes through the Lake Gilles area. This highway connects the town of Kimba in the west to a place called Iron Knob in the east.

History of the Name

The area was officially named Lake Gilles on April 26, 2013. It was given this name because "Lake Gilles" was already a well-known local name for the lake itself.
