Lake Sumner is a small community in De Baca County, New Mexico, in the United States. It's called a "census-designated place" (CDP) because it's a special area defined by the government for counting people. In 2020, about 72 people lived there. The community is named after the nearby Lake Sumner, a large body of water.

Exploring Lake Sumner's Geography
Lake Sumner is located in the northern part of De Baca County. It completely surrounds the actual Lake Sumner, which is a reservoir. A reservoir is a man-made lake used to store water. This reservoir was created by the Sumner Dam on the Pecos River.
Sumner Lake State Park and Nearby Roads
Sumner Lake State Park is a fun place to visit. It sits on the east and west sides of the lake, near where the water flows out. You can get to Lake Sumner by following U.S. Route 84. This highway runs along the northeastern edge of the community.
If you drive southeast on U.S. Route 84 for about 10 miles (16 km), you'll reach Fort Sumner. This is the main town and county seat of De Baca County. If you head northwest for about 34 miles (55 km), you'll arrive at Santa Rosa.
Land and Water Area
The entire area of Lake Sumner is about 68.5 square miles (177.3 km2) (or 68.5 square miles). Most of this area is land, about 62.2 square miles (161.0 km2) (62.3 square miles). The rest, about 6.3 square miles (16.3 km2) (6.25 square miles), is water. This means about 9% of the area is covered by water.
