History of Lake Tapawingo
Lake Tapawingo was created in 1926 by the Lake Tapawingo Development Company. It was planned as a special place for sports and relaxation. The city's name comes from the lake itself. It is a Native American word that means "beautiful water" or "beautiful place." Some also say it was named after a Native American princess.
The city of Lake Tapawingo was officially formed in 1962. This was done to stop larger nearby cities, like Blue Springs, Missouri or Independence, Missouri, from taking over the area.
Geography and Location
Lake Tapawingo is located in Jackson County, Missouri. The city covers a total area of about 0.50 square miles (1.29 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 0.37 square miles (0.96 square kilometers), is land. The remaining 0.13 square miles (0.34 square kilometers) is water, which includes the lake.
