Lambayeque (in the ancient Mochica it was called Ñampaxllæc) is a city located on the northern coast of Peru. It is the capital of its own district and province within the Lambayeque department. The city is about 4.7 kilometers (about 3 miles) from Chiclayo and 13 kilometers (about 8 miles) from the Pacific Ocean.
Lambayeque is a very important place for culture and education in the region. It is home to some of Peru's most famous museums, like the Royal Tombs Museum and the Brüning Museum. The city was founded in 1553 and was first named San Pedro de Lambayeque.

History of Lambayeque
In January 2022, a large tsunami hit the coast of Lambayeque. This tsunami was caused by the eruption of a volcano called Hunga Tonga–Hunga Ha'apai, which is very far away. The waves in Lambayeque reached about 2 meters (6 feet 7 inches) high.
Geography of Lambayeque
The large flat areas of Túcume are part of the Lambayeque Valley. This valley is the biggest one on the northern coast of Peru. The Lambayeque Valley has many natural and man-made waterways. It is also famous for having about 250 old, crumbling pyramids made of mud bricks.
Climate in Lambayeque
Lambayeque has a hot desert climate. This means it is warm all year round and gets very little rain.
The warmer part of the year is from December to May. February is usually the hottest month, with daily high temperatures around 29.5°C (85.1°F) and daily lows around 21.6°C (70.9°F).
The cooler part of the year is from June to November. During these months, temperatures are mild, and there is almost no rain. August is the coolest month, with daily highs around 22.8°C (73.0°F) and daily lows around 15.9°C (60.6°F).

Archaeology and Ancient Cultures
Lambayeque is very rich in archaeological discoveries.
Brüning Museum
The Brüning Museum was opened in the early 1900s. It holds hundreds of amazing items made of gold and silver. You can also see ancient textiles and pottery from different cultures like the Vicus, Moche, Chimú, Lambayeque, and Inca cultures.
Royal Tombs of Sipán Museum
The Tumba Real (Royal Tombs of Sipán Museum) opened in 2002. This museum displays treasures found in the Moche tombs of the Lord of Sipan. So far, fourteen of these important tombs have been found and studied.
Ventarron Temple
The Ventarron temple is one of the oldest temples ever found in the Americas. It dates back to around 2000 BCE. This incredible discovery was reported by the Peruvian archaeologist Walter Alva.
Culture and Local Delights
Lambayeque is also famous for its delicious local treats.
King Kong Milk Candy
One popular dessert from Lambayeque is called King Kong milk candy. It's a sweet treat with a filling made from fresh milk, pineapple sweets, and sometimes peanuts.
Alfajores
The region is also well-known for its alfajores. These are soft, round cookies often filled with dulce de leche (a sweet caramel-like cream) and dusted with powdered sugar.
