Lamberton was once a busy port community located on the Delaware River in Mercer County, New Jersey. A port is a place where ships can load and unload goods. This community was an important spot for trade and travel.
In 1856, Lamberton became part of the larger city of Trenton. This process is called annexation, which means a smaller area joins a bigger city. Today, the area that was once Lamberton is known as the Waterfront section of South Trenton.
The Pike Peak Story
You might have heard of Pikes Peak, a famous mountain in Colorado. It was named after an explorer named Zebulon Pike. Many people mistakenly believe that Zebulon Pike was born in this Lamberton, New Jersey.
However, this is not true! Zebulon Pike was actually born in a different community also named Lamberton. That other Lamberton is now known as Lamington. It is located in Bedminster Township in Somerset County, New Jersey. So, there were two places called Lamberton in New Jersey, which can be a bit confusing!
