Chronology
Predecessor Lamborghini Gallardo
Successor Lamborghini Temerario

The Lamborghini Huracán is a super cool sports car made by the Italian company Lamborghini. Its name, Huracán, means "hurricane" in Spanish. This car took the place of Lamborghini's older V10 model, the Gallardo. The Huracán was first shown online in December 2013. It then made its big public debut at the 2014 Geneva Auto Show and was available to buy in mid-2014.

What's in a Name?

The Huracán's name comes from a brave Spanish fighting bull. Lamborghini often names its cars after famous fighting bulls. Huracán was a bull known for its courage who fought way back in 1879.

How the Huracán Works

Engine Power

The Huracán uses a powerful 5.2-liter V10 engine. This engine is naturally aspirated, meaning it doesn't use turbos or superchargers. It's similar to the one in the older Gallardo, but it's tuned to make about 610 horsepower.

To help the car handle well, the engine is placed in the middle of the car. This helps balance the weight. The engine uses a special fuel injection system that combines two types of injection. This is the first time this combination was used in a V10 engine.

Speed and Performance

The Huracán LP 610-4 is very fast. It weighs about 1,553 kg (3,424 lb). This gives it a great power-to-weight ratio.

Here are some of its impressive speeds:

  • It can go from 0 to 97 km/h (60 mph) in just 2.5 seconds.
  • It reaches 300 km/h (186 mph) in 27.6 seconds.
  • Its top speed is about 325 km/h (202 mph).

Driving Technology

The Huracán has an electronic all-wheel drive system. This system helps the car grip the road better on different surfaces. It also improves the car's overall performance.

The car uses a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. This is a special type of automatic gearbox that shifts gears very quickly. Drivers can choose from different modes: Sport, Strada (Street), and Corsa (Race). Corsa mode gives the highest performance. The Huracán only comes with an automatic transmission.

The car also has a special suspension system that uses magnets. This magnetic suspension can change how stiff the car feels very quickly. This helps the car perform well and also makes it comfortable to drive.

Many parts of the Huracán are shared with the Audi R8. This is because both Lamborghini and Audi are part of the Volkswagen Group, and they share car technology.

Inside the Car

Lamborghini Huracan Interior
Interior of the Huracán

The inside of the Huracán is designed for comfort and control. You can choose seats that adjust fully with electricity and are heated. The car also has an optional navigation system and fancy leather inside.

The Huracán was one of the first sports cars to move its entertainment system away from the middle of the dashboard. It uses a 12.3-inch digital screen called the "virtual cockpit." This screen shows high-definition graphics and can display things like GPS maps from Google Earth. It's powered by Nvidia technology.

Advanced Features

The Huracán has many high-tech features. It uses full LED headlamps for bright, clear vision at night. You can also get "Lamborghini Dynamic Steering" (LDS). This system changes how the steering feels, from easy and comfortable to a sporty racing feel.

The main system that controls how the car performs is called ANIMA. This stands for "Adaptive Network Intelligent Management." ANIMA adjusts the engine, transmission, steering, all-wheel drive, and suspension based on how you want to drive.

The car also has LPI (Lamborghini Piattaforma Inerziale). This system uses sensors to measure how the car moves very precisely. It helps ANIMA make quick adjustments. Drivers can pick "street," "sport," or "race" mode to change how the car responds.

Huracán Models (2014–2019)

Huracán LP 610-4 Coupé

The LP 610-4 name means the car has 610 horsepower and four-wheel drive. "LP" means the engine is placed lengthwise in the middle-rear of the car.

Compared to the older Gallardo, this model has:

  • Full LED lights.
  • A 12.3-inch digital screen for the driver.
  • Fancy leather and Alcantara inside.
  • A redesigned dashboard.
  • A special fuel injection system.
  • An engine stop-start system to save fuel.
  • A 7-speed dual-clutch transmission with three driving modes (STRADA, SPORT, CORSA).
  • 20-inch wheels.
  • Carbon-ceramic brakes for strong stopping power.
  • Optional special steering and magnetic suspension.

You can also add extra features like special paint, better suspension, and parts made from carbon fiber.

Huracán LP 610-4 Spyder

Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 Spyder

This is the convertible version of the LP 610-4. It was shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2015. It has the same 5.2-liter V10 engine with 610 horsepower. It can go from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.4 seconds. Its top speed is 324 km/h (201 mph).

The Spyder weighs about 120 kg (265 lb) more than the coupé. This is because it needs extra parts to make the chassis strong without a roof.

Huracán LP 580-2

Lamborghini Huracán LP580-2

The LP 580-2 was shown at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. It's a slightly less powerful version of the Huracán. Its V10 engine makes 580 horsepower. The biggest difference is that it has rear-wheel drive instead of all-wheel drive.

This model can go from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.4 seconds. Its top speed is 320 km/h (199 mph). It also has slightly different looks, with a unique front and larger air vents at the back. It costs less than the LP 610-4.

It has many changes to its outside, like new bumpers and a carbon fiber rear wing. The exhaust pipes are also moved higher up. The inside has new seats and a different digital speedometer.

Its 5.2-liter V10 engine makes 640 horsepower. The car is also 40 kg (88 lb) lighter because it uses special lightweight materials like forged carbon fiber. It has active aerodynamics, which means parts of the car move to help it stick to the road better at high speeds.

The Performante can go from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.9 seconds. It reaches 200 km/h (124 mph) in 8.9 seconds. Its top speed is about 325 km/h (202 mph).
