Lancaster Soft Crèmes (Chinese: 悠漫; pinyin: Yōu Màn) are yummy candies made by The Hershey Company. They are like a mix of caramel and milk. These candies were first sold in China in 2013 as a "milk candy." A year later, they came to the United States as a caramel candy. This was a really big deal because it was the first brand-new candy Hershey had made in 30 years!

The Sweet Story of Lancaster Crèmes

These soft crèmes were inspired by old-fashioned caramels. These caramels were made by the very first candy company started by Milton S. Hershey. His first company was called the Lancaster Caramel Company.

Milton Hershey became famous for his Lancaster Caramel Company. This success helped him start The Hershey Company. At first, the new Hershey Company made chocolate to cover the caramels. Later, they created the super famous Hershey bar.

A Brand New Candy for Hershey

Lancaster Soft Crèmes were special for another reason. For 30 years, Hershey had not launched a completely new candy brand. They had only added to old brands or bought other companies. This candy was different!

It was also the first time Hershey launched a new product outside the United States first. The candies first appeared in cities like Wuhan, Hangzhou, and Chengdu in China in May 2013. The U.S. launch happened later, in February 2014.

Different Tastes for Different Places

Hershey made two different versions of the candies. They wanted them to taste just right for people in China and the U.S. They didn't use a "test market" like usual. Instead, they developed each version separately.

The Lancaster candy in China is a traditional milk-based candy. This kind of candy is very popular in Asia. The U.S. product is caramel-based. It has a more "sweet and salty" taste. Lancaster Soft Crèmes for the U.S. are made in Canada. For the Chinese market, a local candy company in Hunan makes them.
