Larry Foote is an American football coach and former player. He was born on June 12, 1980. He is currently the run game coordinator and outside linebackers coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This team plays in the National Football League (NFL).
Before becoming a coach, Foote was a talented player. He played as a linebacker for 13 seasons in the NFL. He won two Super Bowl rings with the Pittsburgh Steelers. These were Super Bowl XL and Super Bowl XLIII. He also won a Super Bowl as a coach with the Buccaneers.

College Football Career
Larry Foote played college football at the University of Michigan. He was a very strong defensive player. He played in 48 games during his college years. He made 212 tackles and 11 sacks. A sack is when a defensive player tackles the opposing team's quarterback.
Awards and Achievements
Foote was recognized as one of the best college players. In 2000, he was chosen for the All-Big Ten Conference first-team. This means he was one of the top players in his college league.
In 2001, he was named a first-team All-American. This is a huge honor for college players. He also won the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year award. He received the Roger Zatkoff Award too, which goes to Michigan's best linebacker.
Setting a School Record
On October 27, 2001, Foote set a new school record. He made 7 tackles for a loss in a game against Iowa. A tackle for loss means stopping an opponent behind their starting line. This record stood for many years. It was finally broken in 2017.
Professional Playing Career
Larry Foote was chosen by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2002 NFL Draft. He was picked in the fourth round. He played for the Steelers for many years. He also played for the Detroit Lions and the Arizona Cardinals.
Playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers
Foote started his NFL career with the Steelers. In his first year, 2002, he played in 14 games. He made 20 tackles. By 2004, he became a key player. He had 69 tackles and three sacks that year.
Winning Super Bowls
The 2005 season was a big one for Foote. He started all 16 games for the Steelers. He made 102 tackles and three sacks. He also made a very important interception in the AFC Championship Game. This play helped the Steelers win that game. Two weeks later, Foote and the Steelers won Super Bowl XL.
He continued to play well in 2006 and 2007. In 2008, the Steelers won another Super Bowl, Super Bowl XLIII. This gave Foote his second Super Bowl ring as a player.
Time with the Detroit Lions
After the 2008 season, Foote left the Steelers. He wanted more playing time. He signed a one-year deal with his hometown team, the Detroit Lions, in 2009.
Returning to the Steelers
In 2010, Larry Foote returned to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He signed a new contract with them. He played for the Steelers until 2013. He signed another contract in 2013 to stay with the team. He was released by the Steelers in 2014.
Playing for the Arizona Cardinals
In 2014, Foote signed with the Arizona Cardinals. He played one season with them. He officially retired from playing football before the 2015 NFL season.

Coaching for the Arizona Cardinals
In 2015, Foote joined the Arizona Cardinals as an assistant linebackers coach. He was promoted to linebackers coach in 2016. He coached the linebackers for the Cardinals until 2018.
Coaching for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
In 2019, Foote joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coaching staff. He became their outside linebackers coach. In 2021, he earned his first Super Bowl title as a coach. This was Super Bowl LV, which the Buccaneers won. This made it his third Super Bowl title overall, counting his two as a player.
After the 2021 season, Foote's role changed. He started coaching the inside linebackers. In 2022, he was named the pass game coordinator for the Buccaneers. He also continued to coach the inside linebackers. As of 2025, he is the run game coordinator and outside linebackers coach for the Buccaneers.
Personal Life
Larry Foote is known for his kindness off the field. In 2008, he paid for the funeral of a ten-year-old boy. The boy had drowned in a river in Detroit, Michigan. Foote was touched by the story. He had a son around the same age. He had also played on that same frozen river as a child.
Foote married Jonelle Massop in June 2008. They have four children together. Larry also has another son from a previous relationship. His mother is Leslie Matthews. He has two sisters, Jennifer and Ciara.
On October 17, 2024, Larry Foote was honored. He was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame. This recognized his amazing career in high school, college, and professional football in Michigan.
