Laverne & Shirley, also known as Laverne & Shirley in the Army, is an American animated TV show. It was made by Hanna-Barbera Productions and Paramount Television. The show first aired on ABC from October 10, 1981, to November 13, 1982.

This cartoon is a spin-off of the live-action TV show Laverne & Shirley. The main characters, Laverne and Shirley, were voiced by their original actors, Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams. The idea for the cartoon came from a 1979 episode of the live-action show where Laverne and Shirley joined the Army.

What is Laverne & Shirley in the Army About?

The cartoon series takes place at a place called Camp Fillmore. It follows the funny adventures of two friends, Laverne DeFazio and Shirley Feeney. They are privates in the U.S. Army and share a room.

They often get into secret and silly situations. Their boss is a pig named Sgt. Squealy. He is always threatening to tell his own boss, Sgt. Turnbuckle, about their antics. The first season of the show had 13 episodes. It ran from October 10, 1981, to January 2, 1982.

For the second season, the show got a new name: Laverne & Shirley with The Fonz. It was combined with another cartoon based on the TV show Mork & Mindy. Together, they formed a show called Mork & Mindy/Laverne & Shirley/Fonz Hour.

In this second season, The Fonz (voiced by Henry Winkler) joined Laverne and Shirley. He was a popular character from the show Happy Days. The Fonz also brought his talking dog, Mr. Cool (voiced by Frank Welker). They worked as mechanics in the army camp's garage.

In August 1982, Cindy Williams left her role as Shirley in the live-action Laverne & Shirley show. Because of this, another actress, Lynne Marie Stewart, took over voicing Shirley in the cartoon. Only eight episodes were made for this second season, from September 25 to November 13, 1982.
