Where is the Lawagamau River?

The Lawagamau River is found in the northern part of the Cochrane District in Northeastern Ontario. This area is known for its many lakes and rivers.

The River's Journey

The Lawagamau River starts its journey at a place called Upper Lawagamau Lake. From there, it flows north into another lake, Lawagamau Lake. It even goes under Ontario Highway 652!

After that, the river turns towards the northeast and then east. It picks up water from a smaller stream called Hopper Creek. Then, it turns north again. It also gets water from another stream, Hoelke Creek. Finally, the Lawagamau River reaches its end when it flows into the Kesagami River.

What is a Drainage Basin?

The Lawagamau River is part of the James Bay drainage basin. Think of a drainage basin like a giant funnel. All the rain and snow that falls in this huge area eventually flows into the same main body of water. For the Lawagamau River, its water eventually makes its way to James Bay.

Tributaries of the Lawagamau River
