A Look at Lawler's Past

Lawler has an interesting history as a small community. It once had its own post office, which served the area for many years. The post office was open from 1909 until 1964.

The community was also a stop on the Soo Line train route. This meant trains would come through, connecting Lawler to other places. There was a Co-Op store that provided groceries and supplies to local families. Charlie and Billy Spicola started and ran a general store and gas station.

Farmers in the area could take their milk to a creamery in Lawler. This creamery processed milk into other dairy products. For fun, people would go to dances at the Pavilion on weekends. There was also a tavern, which is still open today.

Lawler had an elementary school for younger students. It taught grades 1 through 8. After finishing there, students would go to MacGregor High for their higher education. The Pentecostal Church in Lawler was led by Reverend Matson for many years.
