Lawrence Flugence (born January 19, 1980) is a former American football player. He played as a linebacker, a key defensive position. Lawrence was known for his strong performance in college football. He played for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. In 2001, he was recognized as a third-team All-American. After college, he joined the National Football League (NFL). He was with the Carolina Panthers and later the New England Patriots. He also played for the NFL Europe team, the Berlin Thunder.
College Football Star
Lawrence Flugence played linebacker for Texas Tech University. He was part of the Red Raiders team from 1998 to 2002. During his time there, he was a standout player. He was named second-team All-Big 12 three times. This honor came in 2000, 2001, and 2002.
In 2001, the Associated Press named him a third-team All-American. This means he was one of the best college football players in the country. Lawrence was also a leader in tackles for the Big 12 Conference. He led the conference in tackles from 2000 to 2002. In 2002, he set a special record. He made 193 tackles in a single season. This was an NCAA Division I record for most tackles.
Professional Football Journey
After his college career, Lawrence Flugence was not chosen in the NFL draft. Players who are not drafted can still sign with teams as "free agents." In 2003, Lawrence signed with the Carolina Panthers. He was part of their team for a short time.
Later in 2003, he was released by the Panthers. He then signed with the New England Patriots. The Patriots sent him to play for the Berlin Thunder in NFL Europe in 2004. NFL Europe was a league that helped players develop their skills. Lawrence was released from the Patriots' roster in September 2004.
