Lawrence Richardson was an English martyr from Great Crosby, Lancashire. A martyr is someone who dies for their beliefs. He was a brave man who stood up for his faith during a difficult time in England.

Early Life and Priesthood
Lawrence Richardson was born with the name Lawrence Johnson. His father was Richard Johnson, also from Great Crosby. Lawrence studied at Brasenose College. In March 1577, he became a priest in a place called Douai. Douai was a city where many English Catholics went to study during a time when their religion was not allowed in England.
Journey to England
After becoming a priest, Lawrence changed his name to Richardson. In July 1577, he returned to England. His mission was to serve the Catholic community there. This was a very dangerous task at the time.
Arrest and Execution
In 1581, Lawrence Richardson was arrested in London. He was on his way to France when this happened. He was put in Newgate Prison.
False Accusations
Lawrence was accused of being involved in something called the "Rheims and Rome plot." This was a false accusation. It was a made-up story used to target Catholics. He was wrongly charged with being part of this supposed plan.
Death for His Faith
On May 30, 1582, Lawrence Richardson was executed in Tyburn, London. He died alongside another priest named Luke Kirby. They were executed because of their Catholic faith.
Legacy and Recognition
Lawrence Richardson is remembered as a martyr. His feast day, which is a special day to honor him, is May 30. In 1886, he was officially recognized as "Blessed" by Pope Leo XIII. This means the Catholic Church honors him as a holy person.
