Leathermouth (also spelled as LeATHERMØUTH) is an American hardcore punk band. The band was started in 2007 by My Chemical Romance's guitarist Frank Iero. In January 2009, the band released their first album, XO.
About Leathermouth
Leathermouth began in 2007. It was formed by friends of My Chemical Romance's rhythm guitarist, Frank Iero. Frank Iero heard some demo songs from the band. He wanted to sign them to his own record label.
Later, Frank Iero joined the band himself. This happened because the first lead singer did not write any lyrics. In Leathermouth, Frank Iero writes the lyrics and sings lead vocals. This was his first band where he took on these roles. He uses the band to share his thoughts about the world. He also uses it to express his personal feelings.
Leathermouth played their first concerts in the summer of 2008. They toured with bands like Warship. They also joined the Fall 2008 Reggie and the Full Effect "Farewell Tour." Frank Iero hopes to tour more with Leathermouth. He plans to do this when he is not busy with My Chemical Romance.
Signing with Epitaph Records
In October 2008, Leathermouth signed with Epitaph Records. This was different from the original plan. Frank Iero had first wanted to release their music on his own label. However, he realized it would be hard to promote the album himself. He was already very busy with My Chemical Romance. He also had other bands signed to his label.
Brett Gurewitz, the president of Epitaph Records, was very impressed. He liked the band's strong energy and their songwriting. Leathermouth released their first studio album, XO, on January 27, 2009. It was released through Epitaph Records. The album did not appear on the main Billboard 200 list. However, it reached #21 on the Top Heatseekers chart. This chart lists albums by new or developing artists.
