Elena Sergeevna Katina (born 4 October 1984), known as Lena Katina, is a singer from Russia. She became famous as one half of the pop music duo t.A.T.u.. Lena started singing when she was eight years old. She joined a children's group called Avenue, and then another group called Neposedy.
In 1999, a producer named Ivan Shapovalov chose Lena and Julia Volkova to form the duo t.A.T.u. This group became Russia's most successful pop music act. They had many hit songs, including "All the Things She Said", "Not Gonna Get Us", and "All About Us". Their first song, "All the Things She Said", was number one in 19 countries, like the UK and Australia.
In 2009, Lena started her own solo music career. This led to t.A.T.u. taking a break. In 2011, the duo officially split up, and Julia Volkova also started her own solo music. That same year, Lena released her first big solo song, "Never Forget". This song reached number one on MTV Russia and won "Video of the Year". It also became number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart.
In 2014, Lena released her first solo album, This Is Who I Am. Two years later, it was released in Spanish as Esta Soy Yo. In 2019, she released her second album, Mono.

Early Life and Music Beginnings
Lena Katina was born in Moscow, Russia, on 4 October 1984. Her father, Sergey Katin, was a musician. From a young age, Lena's father encouraged her to join different sports and music clubs.
When she was seven, Lena started regular school. A year later, she began taking piano lessons at a music school. At age ten, she joined a children's music group called Avenue as a singer. She sang with them for three years. When she was thirteen, she became part of the group Neposedy. This is where she met Julia Volkova, and they became friends. At fourteen, Lena and Julia were chosen to form the pop duo t.A.T.u..

Becoming Famous with t.A.T.u.
Lena Katina and Julia Volkova formed the duo t.A.T.u. in 1999. They became very famous around the world. Their hit songs included "All the Things She Said", "Not Gonna Get Us", and "All About Us". They also took part in the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest and finished in third place with their song "Ne Ver', Ne Boysia".
In 2007, both Lena and Julia appeared in a movie called You and I. The movie was about two teenage girls who meet at a t.A.T.u. concert.
t.A.T.u. took a break in 2009. In March 2011, the group officially ended. They announced that Lena and Julia would work on their own solo music projects.
Starting a Solo Career
While t.A.T.u. was on break in 2009, Lena Katina announced she would start her solo music career. She began recording her own songs. In 2010, she performed her first solo show in Los Angeles. She also sang at a festival called PrideFest in Milwaukee. That same day, she released a free song called "Lost in this Dance".
In 2011, Lena's song "Never Forget" was first played on a radio station in Mexico. This song also included another track called "Stay". Lena and her band performed acoustic versions of popular songs for a show called Rawsession. These songs were later released as an EP called RAWsession 07.14.11.
In 2012, Lena worked with Russian rapper T-Killah on a song called "Shot". In 2013, she released the song "Lift Me Up". This song reached number 31 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart.
In 2014, Lena released her first live album, European Fan Weekend 2013 Live. It had her solo songs and some t.A.T.u. songs. In November 2014, she released her first studio album, This Is Who I Am. A Spanish version of this album, called Esta Soy Yo, came out in 2016.
Recent Music and TV Work
In 2017, Lena released new songs like "Silent Hills" and "Here I Go Again". In 2018, she released several Russian songs, including "После нас" ("After Us"), which was about her time with t.A.T.u. In 2019, she released the singles "Стартрек" ("Star Trek") and "Моно" ("Mono"). Her first Russian album, also called Моно, came out in July 2019.
In 2020, Lena Katina became a judge on a Russian TV singing competition called All Together Now!. She also appeared on the Russian version of The Masked Singer as Spider. She released more singles in 2020, like "Virus" and "Crybaby". Her acoustic EP Акустика (Acoustics) was also released that year.
In 2023, she released the single "Tакси" ("taxi") from her EP Манекен ("mannequin"). The full EP came out in April 2023. She continues to release new music.
Lena's Family Life
Lena Katina married Slovenian musician Sasha Kuzmanović in 2013. They had been together for three years. In 2014, Lena announced she was expecting her first child. She gave birth to a son on 22 May 2015. Lena and Sasha divorced in 2019.
In June 2021, Lena shared that she was in a relationship with Russian businessman Dmitry Spiridonov. They got engaged in May 2022 and were married on 16 June. In November 2022, Lena announced she was pregnant with her second child. She gave birth to another son on 11 July 2023.
Acting Roles
Lena Katina made her first movie appearance in the 2008 film You and I. She starred alongside Julia Volkova and Mischa Barton. The movie tells the story of two teenage girls who meet and fall in love at a t.A.T.u. concert in Moscow. The film was inspired by the real story of the pop duo.
In 2014, Lena lent her voice to the fairy Zarina in the Russian version of the Disney movie The Pirate Fairy. Also in 2014, she appeared in a short film called Together Apart. In this film, she played one of the cupids, and Julia Volkova had a similar role.
