The History of Lenguazaque
Before the Spanish arrived, the area of Lenguazaque was part of the Muisca Confederation. This was a group of indigenous people. They lived in the central highlands of Colombia. The zaque of Tunja ruled this land.

The name Lenguazaque comes from the Chibcha language. This was the language of the Muisca people. It means "end of the reign of the zaque".
