Leo "Bud" Welch (born March 22, 1932 – died December 19, 2017) was an American musician. He was known for playing gospel blues music and was a talented guitarist. He started his official music career later in life, in 2014. That year, he released his first album, Sabougla Voices. His next album, I Don't Prefer No Blues, came out in 2015.

Early Life and Music Beginnings
Leo Welch was born on March 22, 1932, in a town called Sabougla, Mississippi. For 30 years, he worked as a lumberjack, cutting down trees. Even while working, he spent a lot of time learning music. He taught himself to play many instruments, including the fiddle, harmonica, and guitar. He learned his musical skills in the Mississippi Delta region, which is famous for its blues music.
Starting His Music Career
Leo Welch's journey into recording music began in a unique way in 2014. He was secretly recorded while performing at his manager's birthday party! This led to him releasing his first album, Sabougla Voices, with the Fat Possum label.
His second album, I Don't Prefer No Blues, was released on March 24, 2015. It was also put out by Big Legal Mess. Later, in 2019, an album called The Angels in Heaven Done Signed My Name was released. It was even chosen as a 'Favorite Blues Album' by AllMusic, a popular music website.
Late Blossom Blues Documentary
Leo Welch's life and music were featured in a special movie. This award-winning documentary is called Late Blossom Blues. It was made by filmmakers Wolfgang Pfoser-Almer and Stefan Wolner from Austria and the U.S. The movie, released in 2017, tells the story of Leo Welch.
Appearing in The King
Leo Welch also made a short appearance in a documentary about the famous singer Elvis Presley. This movie was called The King and was directed by an American filmmaker named Eugene Jarecki.
His Final Years
Leo Welch passed away at his home in Bruce, Mississippi, on December 19, 2017. He was 85 years old.
