Leon Valley is a city in Bexar County, Texas, United States. It is like a small island city completely surrounded by the larger city of San Antonio. This means it is an enclave. Leon Valley is part of the bigger San Antonio-New Braunfels metropolitan area. In 2020, about 11,542 people lived there.

History of Leon Valley

Leon Valley started as a farming community in the 1940s. It was located on Bandera Road, between the towns of Helotes and San Antonio.

In 1952, the people living there decided they wanted their own independent city. They did not want to become part of San Antonio. So, they signed a petition to create their own city.

Leon Valley officially became a city in 1954. Its first mayor was Raymond Rimkus. In 1960, only 536 people lived in Leon Valley. By 1970, the population had grown to 1,960. In 1990, it had 9,581 residents.

Geography of Leon Valley

Leon Valley is located at specific coordinates: 29.498280 degrees North and 98.612594 degrees West. This spot is about three miles southwest of the South Texas Medical Center. It's also eight miles west of Uptown San Antonio. Downtown San Antonio is about 10 miles to the northwest.

The city covers a total area of about 3.4 square miles (8.98 square kilometers). All of this area is land; there are no large bodies of water within the city limits.
