Leslie Abrams Gardner, born on December 6, 1974, is a very important judge in the United States. She is the chief judge for a special court called the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia. Before becoming a judge, she worked as a lawyer for the government.
About Leslie Abrams Gardner
Leslie Abrams Gardner grew up with her parents, Reverend Carolyn and Reverend Robert Abrams, and five brothers and sisters. Her older sister, Stacey Abrams, is also well-known. Stacey used to be a leader in the Georgia government and ran for governor of Georgia in 2018 and 2022.
Education and Early Career
Gardner went to Brown University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1997. She then studied law at Yale Law School, receiving her law degree in 2002.
She started her legal career working for Judge Marvin J. Garbis in Maryland. After that, she worked as a lawyer at two different law firms: Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton. From 2010 to 2014, she worked as a government lawyer, helping to bring cases in the Northern District of Georgia.
Becoming a Federal Judge
On March 11, 2014, President Barack Obama chose Gardner to become a United States district judge. She would take the place of Judge Willie Louis Sands.
Her nomination was reviewed by the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary on May 13, 2014. The committee approved her nomination on June 19, 2014. The full United States Senate voted to confirm her on November 18, 2014, with a unanimous vote of 100–0. She officially became a judge on November 20, 2014. On June 1, 2024, she became the chief judge of the court.
