A Glimpse into Levington's Past
Levington has a historic building called St Peter's Church and a local pub. It is close to the larger town of Ipswich and the village of Nacton. An exciting discovery was made here long ago: a Viking ship was once found in Levington!
A famous person named Sir Robert Hitcham was born in Levington. He lived from about 1572 to 1636. Sir Robert was a Member of Parliament, which means he helped make laws for the country. He also worked as an Attorney-General for Queen Anne of Denmark, who was the wife of King James I. Sir Robert once owned Framlingham Castle. When he passed away, he left the castle to Pembroke College, Cambridge, where he had studied.
Levington's Special Features
The village is well-known for the Levington Research Station. This station was built by a company called Fisons in 1957. Fisons had a factory nearby that made fertilisers for plants. The research station became famous in the 1960s for creating something special called Levington Compost. This compost helped plants grow better and became very popular.
