History of Lewisburg Village
Lewisburg was founded not long after Harrison Township was officially created in 1816.
Back in 1833, Lewisburg was a small but busy place. It had a church, four stores, and two taverns. There were also two doctors and a special plant-based healer. People could visit two mills, which were places that processed grains. About 200 people lived in 40 houses.
The village got its name from Lewisburg, Virginia, which is now in West Virginia. Around 1836, a pioneer named John Mumma started another community. He called it Euphemia, named after his wife. Euphemia was located just north of Lewisburg, right on the important National Road. The two villages, Lewisburg and Euphemia, officially became one on April 4, 1916. They decided to keep the name Lewisburg for the combined community.
