Early Life and First Performances

Liberty Silver's mom was Jamaican-Irish and her dad was Hawaiian. They met at the Commonwealth Games. Soon after she was born, Liberty was adopted by a family in Ontario, Canada. She grew up in different cities like Kingston and Peterborough.

Later, she found out she has a biological brother. He plays music in a band from Ottawa. When Liberty was just 12 years old, she had an amazing chance. She performed with a reggae band called The Wild Bunch. They opened for the legendary Bob Marley at Madison Square Garden in New York!

Liberty Silver's Music Career

Liberty Silver made history in the Canadian music world. She was the first Black woman to win a Juno Award. This was a big step for other Black female artists in Canada. She won two Juno Awards in 1985. One was for Best R&B/Soul Recording for her song "Lost Somewhere Inside Your Love." The other was for Best Reggae/Calypso Recording for "Heaven Must Have Sent You," which she sang with Otis Gayle. She was nominated for a Juno Award five times in total, from 1985 to 1989.

Liberty Silver has performed for many important people. She sang for former U.S. President Barack Obama. She also performed for Celine Dion, Desmond Tutu, and former Soviet Union President Mikhail Gorbachev. In 2016, she sang "Amazing Grace" at the funeral of former Toronto mayor Rob Ford.

In 2000, Liberty Silver hosted a TV show. It was called Centre Stage Chronicles. The show had 13 episodes and featured many guests. These included Martha Chaves and Carol Welsman.

Joining Northern Lights
