Dallas Public Library System
The city of Dallas has a great network of libraries called the Dallas Public Library system. This system helps people of all ages find books, learn new things, and connect with their community.
The idea for the Dallas Public Library started with a group called the Dallas Federation of Women's Clubs. A special leader named Mrs. Henry (May Dickson) Exall worked very hard to make it happen. She helped raise money to build the first library. A very rich person named Andrew Carnegie, who was known for helping build libraries all over the country, gave a grant. This money helped build the first library branch in 1901.
Today, the Dallas Public Library system has 25 different locations across the city. The main library is called the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library. It's a huge eight-story building located in the Government District of downtown.
