Lichtenstein is a small town located in Saxony, a state in Germany. It sits right between the cities of Zwickau and Chemnitz. People often call Lichtenstein the "town in green" because of its beautiful natural surroundings.
This town has many interesting places to visit. You can find 7 museums, 2 theaters, and even a historic castle here. There are also 7 nature parks, perfect for exploring outdoors. One of the most famous spots is the "Miniwelt" museum. Here, you can see tiny versions of famous world sights, like the Statue of Liberty! As of December 2011, about 12,613 people live in Lichtenstein.
Lichtenstein is made up of three main parts. There's the main town itself, plus two smaller villages called "Heinrichsort" and "Rödlitz." Nearby towns include Bernsdorf, Glauchau, St. Egidien, Mülsen, Hohndorf, and Oelsnitz.

History of Lichtenstein
Lichtenstein was first established a long time ago, in the year 1212. The church of St. Laurentius, one of the town's two churches, was built in 1261. The castle of Lichtenstein was also built in the 12th century. A noble family known as the "Schönburgs" lived in this castle until 1945.
How Lichtenstein is Governed
The town of Lichtenstein is run by a council. This council includes 22 councillors and the mayor. The mayor is the main leader of the town.
Since 1990, Wolfgang Sedner has been the mayor of Lichtenstein. He won his last election in June 2008.
Population Changes Over Time
The number of people living in Lichtenstein has changed quite a bit over the years. For example, in 1834, there were about 2,960 residents. By 1933, the population had grown to nearly 13,000 people. In recent years, the population has been around 12,000 to 13,000 people.
