The Zwickau rural district is a special area in western Saxony, a state in Germany. It's like a county or a region that helps organize things for the people living there. This district was created on August 1, 2008. It was formed by joining two older districts, the Chemnitzer Land Rural District and the Zwickauer Land Rural District. Even though it's the smallest district in Saxony, it has the most people living in it per square kilometer!

How the Zwickau District Started

The Zwickau district was officially formed on August 1, 2008. This happened because of a big change in how areas were managed in Saxony. The new Zwickau rural district was made up of the old Chemnitzer Land and Zwickauer Land districts, plus the city of Zwickau itself.

Where is the Main Office?

The main office, or "county seat," for the Zwickau district is in the city of Zwickau. This is the biggest city in the district. However, some of the old main offices from the smaller districts are still used as smaller offices. These are in the towns of Glauchau, Limbach-Oberfrohna, Werdau, and Hohenstein-Ernstthal.

What About Jobs in Zwickau?

In July 2008, about 25,026 people in the Zwickau district were looking for jobs. This meant that about 11.1 percent of the people who could work were unemployed. This was actually the lowest unemployment rate in the whole Chemnitz Government Region. The number of young people looking for jobs went up a bit because school had just ended.

Learning and Schools in Zwickau

The Zwickau rural district has many places for learning! There is one special study academy called Berufsakademie Glauchau. There are also nine vocational schools, which teach skills for specific jobs. Plus, there are many grammar schools, which are like high schools. In total, the district has 124 schools! If you want to go to college, there are different universities nearby in Chemnitz and Zwickau.

How is Zwickau Governed?

The Zwickau district is run by a group called the Kreistag, which is like a district council. The people living in the district vote for who they want to be on this council. The Kreistag was last elected on June 8, 2008. The main leader of the Zwickau Rural District is currently Christoph Scheurer. He is like the chief administrative officer.
