The Lidy Walker Covered Bridge was a special kind of bridge. It was made of wood and metal and had a roof and sides, like a tunnel. This bridge used to cross the outlet of Lidy's Lake in Cullman County, Alabama, United States. It was located near the town of Berlin, Alabama, about 6 miles (10 kilometers) east of Cullman.

Built in 1926, the bridge was 50 feet (15 meters) long. It used a design called a Town Lattice truss. This design uses a crisscross pattern of wooden beams. The bridge was privately owned and used for people walking across it. Sadly, the Lidy Walker Covered Bridge collapsed in August 2001.

Bridge History

The Lidy Walker Covered Bridge had an interesting past. It was first built in 1926 and called the Big Branch Covered Bridge. At that time, it was located in Blount County, Alabama, near Blountsville. It crossed a stream called Big Branch.

For many years, cars could drive across this bridge. But in 1958, a new road was built that went around it. This meant the old bridge was no longer needed for traffic.

Later that same year, a local builder named Winford I. "Lidy" Walker bought the bridge for $50. He moved it to his farm in Cullman County. This farm was near Lidy's Lake and later became a fun recreation area. After it was moved, the bridge was renamed 'Lidy Walker' in his honor. Visitors to his property could see the historic bridge until it collapsed in 2001.
