Limburg-Weilburg is a special area, like a county, in the western part of Hesse, Germany. It's a place where many people live and work.

A Look Back: History of Limburg-Weilburg

Long ago, in 1867, an area called Oberlahnkreis was formed. Its main town was Weilburg.

Later, in 1886, another area called Limburg an der Lahn district started. Its main town was Limburg.

These two areas became one in 1974. That's how the Limburg-Weilburg district we know today was created!

The coat of arms for Limburg-Weilburg shows symbols from its two older districts.

The cross comes from the Limburg district. It represents Saint George, who is the patron saint of the big cathedral in Limburg. It also shows the bishops of Trier, who owned the Limburg area a long time ago in the 14th century. The checkered bar inside the cross comes from the Counts of Limburg from the 15th century.

The lion inside the small shield is from the Oberlahn district. This lion is the symbol of Nassau. This is because the area used to be part of the Duchy of Nassau.
