Lincoln City is a small community in Indiana, United States. It is located in Spencer County, in the southwestern part of the state. This area is very special because it's where Abraham Lincoln, who later became the 16th President of the United States, spent many of his childhood years.

History of Lincoln City

Lincoln City was officially started in 1872. This happened when a railroad line was built through the area. The community was named after the famous Lincoln family, who lived nearby.

Abraham Lincoln's Childhood Home

Close to Lincoln City, you can find the place where Abraham Lincoln grew up. He lived on a farm here from when he was 7 until he was 21 years old. You can still see the site of his family's log cabin, which was built in 1816. There is also a memorial to his mother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln.

Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial

Today, this historic area is a national park called the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial. It is managed by the National Park Service. The park has a special "Living Historical Farm." This farm shows what life was like in the early 1800s when the Lincoln family lived there.

The farm has a cabin, other buildings, fences made of split logs, animals, gardens, and crops. People who work at the park dress in old-fashioned clothes. They show visitors what daily activities were like in the 1820s. The farm is open all year, but the staff are usually there from mid-April through September.

The Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial is located on Highway 162, right across from Lincoln State Park.

Heritage Hills High School is located right here in Lincoln City. It is one of only two high schools in all of Spencer County.
