Linneus is a small town in Aroostook County, Maine, United States. In 2020, about 947 people lived there. The town is named after Carl Linnaeus, a famous Swedish scientist.

How Linneus Began
Linneus has an interesting history! In 1833, half of the land that makes up Linneus was sold. The State of Massachusetts sold it to raise money. This money was used to create a special teaching position at Harvard College. This position was for a professor who would teach about plants, a subject called botany.
