Lise Anne Couture was born in Montreal, Canada, in 1959. She went to Carleton University to study architecture. In 1983, she earned her first degree in architecture. While at Carleton University, she met Hani Rashid, who would become her husband and business partner. Later, in 1986, she earned a Master's degree in Architecture from Yale University.

Lise Anne Couture is a co-founder of Asymptote Architecture, an architecture firm based in New York. She started this company with Hani Rashid in 1989.
