This is a list of characters from the popular radio show, Adventures in Odyssey. The show is about the people living in a town called Odyssey and their adventures, often learning important life lessons.

Main Characters You'll Meet Often

  • John Avery Whittaker, usually called "Whit", is the main character of Adventures in Odyssey. He owns Whit's End, a special ice cream shop and discovery center. Whit is a wise and kind Christian leader who helps both kids and adults in Odyssey. He was first voiced by Hal Smith. After Hal Smith passed away, Whit went on an archaeological trip to Israel. He returned in 1996, voiced by Paul Herlinger. Since 2009, Andre Stojka has voiced Whit.
  • Connie Kendall, voiced by Katie Leigh, is one of the most important characters in the show. She has been voiced by Katie Leigh since her first appearance in Odyssey. Connie works at Whit's End and is a good friend to many.
  • Eugene Meltsner, voiced by Will Ryan (until 2021) and now by Townsend Coleman, is a very smart person who also works at Whit's End. He knows a lot of facts and loves learning new things. Important stories about Eugene include when he became a Christian and when he married Katrina Shanks. He also found his father, whom he thought had died when he was young.
  • Buck Oliver-Meltsner, voiced by Robby Bruce, is a 16-year-old who was once involved in a big plan to make fake money. After that, he spent time in a special place for young people. Eugene and Katrina Meltsner became his foster parents. Buck is still learning about faith. He was adopted by Eugene and Katrina Meltsner.
  • Katrina Shanks-Meltsner, voiced by Pamela Hayden (1994–2002) and Audrey Wasilewski (since 2005), is Eugene Meltsner's wife. She comes from a wealthy family.
  • Jules Kendall, voiced by Shona Rodman, is Connie's younger half-sister. She is very practical and sometimes finds situations awkward. Jules doesn't share the same Christian faith as Connie. She first appeared in "Life Expectancy, Part 2."
  • Jason Whittaker, voiced by Townsend Coleman, is Whit's son. He used to work for a government agency. Jason ran Whit's End for a while when Whit was away. He now runs an antique shop called Triple J's Antiques.
  • Wooton Bassett, voiced by Jess Harnell, is a mailman in Odyssey. He writes several comic books, like Power Boy and Captain Absolutely. Wooton is very cheerful and sometimes acts a bit like a kid, but he can also be very serious. He is a Christian and recently married Penny Wise.
  • Penny Bassett, voiced by Kimmy Robertson, is a very happy and artistic person. She is easily delighted by small things and is a Christian. Penny is also Connie's best friend. She married Wooton Bassett.
  • David Parker, voiced by Marc Evan Jackson, is the father of the Parker family. He is married to Eva and has three children: Olivia, Matthew, and Camilla. David works as an architect.
  • Eva Parker, voiced by Amanda Troop, is David Parker's wife and the mother of Olivia, Matthew, and Camilla. She is a sensible mom who works part-time as a nurse. She tries to balance raising her family and honoring her Hispanic heritage.
  • Chris, voiced by Chris Anthony, is the show's announcer and lives in Odyssey.

Adults

  • Jack Allen (1994–2012), voiced by Alan Young, was a childhood friend of Whit. He managed Whit's End when Whit was away and later owned an antique shop with his wife, Joanne. Jack and Joanne moved to Scotland when they retired.
  • Bart Rathbone (1987-2008), voiced by Walker Edmiston and Robert Easton, managed the Electric Palace. Bart often tried to get attention with big stunts and even ran for mayor.
  • Bernard Walton (1990–2008), voiced by Dave Madden, was Odyssey's window-washer. He was known for his funny stories and hosted a Christian TV show called B-TV.
  • Tom Riley (1987–2008), voiced by Walker Edmiston, was a local farmer and a good friend of Whit. Tom was a long-time member of the Odyssey City Council and even served as mayor.
  • George Barclay (1988–1997, 2003–2004), voiced by Chuck Bolte, was a pastor who moved his family from Odyssey to another town. He returned for a few episodes later.
  • Mary Barclay (1989–1997), voiced by Patricia Parris and Carol Bilger, was the wife of Pastor George Barclay and mother of Donna, Jimmy, and Stewart.
  • Dr. Regis Blackgaard (1989, 1991, 1994, 1995, 1999, 2000), voiced by Earl Boen, was Whit's main rival. He was thought to have died in an explosion. Some fans believe he might still be alive.
  • Robert "Mitch" Mitchell (2001–2003, 2012), voiced by Steve Burns, was Connie's boyfriend and an FBI agent. Their relationship had many ups and downs.
  • Dale Jacobs (1989–1998, 2012–2014), voiced by Phil Lollar, was the editor of The Odyssey Times newspaper.
  • Richard Maxwell (1989–2000), voiced by Nathan Carlson, started as a difficult character who worked for Dr. Blackgaard. He later changed his ways and tried to make up for his past actions.
  • Armitage Shanks, voiced by Bernard Erhard (1995–1998) and Brian Cummings (2002), was Katrina Shanks' father. He was very protective of his daughter.

Children

  • Rodney Rathbone (1989–2007), voiced by Steve Burns, was the son of Bart Rathbone. He was a mischievous bully and led a group of teenagers called The Bones of Rath.
  • Aubrey Shepard (1998-2005), voiced by Camilla Belle and Danielle Judovits, was a creative girl who loved books. She became a Christian during a big storyline called the Novacom Saga.
  • Sam Johnson (1991–1996), voiced by Kyle Ellison, was a kind-hearted boy who was sometimes a bit too trusting.
  • Lawrence Hodges (1992–1995, 2008), voiced by Gabriel Encarnacion, was a very energetic kid with a wild imagination.
  • Lucy Cunningham-Schultz (1988–1996, 2008), voiced by Genni Long, was a young reporter for her school newspaper and The Odyssey Times. She later became a college student and married Jack Davis.
  • Donna Barclay (1988–1997), voiced by Azure Janosky, was the daughter of George and Mary Barclay. She was often shown as a typical teenager who had a good heart.
  • James (Jimmy) Barclay (1988–1997, 2004, 2008), voiced by David Griffin, was a very popular child character. He and his family were in many episodes.
  • Grady McKay (2004–2008), voiced by Jordan Orr, was a friend of Wooton. He was a determined boy who cared deeply for his family.
  • Tamika Washington (2003–2008), voiced by Courtney Brown, was the daughter of Ed and Elaine.
  • Isaac Morton (1989–1993), voiced by Justin Morgan, was a good-hearted but sometimes scared kid who often faced problems with Rodney Rathbone.
  • Jack Davis (1988–1989, 1992–1994, 2008), voiced by Donald Long, was known as a "cool" kid. He later got engaged to Lucy.
  • Curt Stevens (1990–1992, 2008), voiced by Fabio Stephens, had a relationship with Lucy and often got into trouble.
  • Jenny Roberts, voiced by Natalie Babbitt, was one of the show's characters who was blind. She never let her disability stop her and fit in well in Odyssey.

  • Alex Jefferson (1999–2003), voiced by Travis Tedford, played an important part in the Novacom saga with his cousin Cal.
  • Marvin Washington, voiced by Kyle Massey (2003), Jordan Colloway (2003–2004), and Kendré Berry (2004–2008, 2017), was a child character who lived with his parents and sister Tamika.
  • Nick Mulligan (1997–2005), voiced by Christopher Castile, was a tough-talking kid from New York City. He later worked at Whit's End and became a bit calmer.
  • Mandy Straussberg (1998–2008), voiced by Aria Curzon, is very good at writing stories and plays. It was hinted that she would marry Trent DeWhite in the future.
  • Trent DeWhite (2003–2008), voiced by Corey Padnos, is Jared's younger brother. He is a top student and was hinted to marry Mandy Straussberg in the future.
  • Shannon Everett (1992–1994), was a popular cheerleader who sometimes used tricky ways to get what she wanted.

  • Officer Patrick O'Ryan, voiced by Will Ryan, is a friendly police officer in Odyssey with an Irish accent.
  • Edwin Blackgaard (1992–2008), voiced by Earl Boen, is the twin brother of Dr. Regis Blackgaard. He owns the Harlequin Dinner Theatre and wants to bring culture to Odyssey.
  • Walter Shakespeare (1992–2008), voiced by Corey Burton, is Edwin's assistant at the Harlequin Dinner Theatre.
  • Doris Rathbone (1993–1998, 2007–present), voiced by Pamela Hayden and Diane Hsu, is Rodney's mother.
  • Harlow Doyle (1992–2000, 2005, 2008, 2010), voiced by Will Ryan, is the town's private detective.
  • Tasha Forbes, voiced by Christie Nimitz (1994–1996) and Mandy Steckelberg (2008, 2020), was Jason Whittaker's girlfriend. They almost got married, but decided not to because they had different beliefs.

  • Margaret Faye (1997–1998, 2006, 2008), voiced by Alexandra Kenworthy, ran for Mayor of Odyssey and won.
  • Phillip Glossman (1988–1990, 1992, 1994–1995, 2008), voiced by Paul McCusker, is a state politician who had a long-standing disagreement with Whit.
  • Leonard Meltsner (2006–2007), voiced by Phil Proctor, is Eugene's father. He became a Christian and traveled to Africa.
  • Mrs. Kramer (2011–2018), voiced by Mitzi McCall, is the librarian in Odyssey. She is known for being a bit grumpy and easily annoyed.
