Famicom Mini collection boxes 1
Those who bought all the games in one series could order a special collection box from Club Nintendo.

The Classic NES Series is a special collection of classic video games. In North America, it was called the Classic NES Series. In Japan, it was known as Famicom Mini (ファミコンミニ). And in Europe and Australia, it was called NES Classics.

This series brought back popular games from the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and its Japanese version, the Family Computer, to the Game Boy Advance. It was like playing your favorite old games on a new, smaller system!

To celebrate these games, a special Game Boy Advance SP was released. It looked just like the classic NES controller! In Japan, the game cartridges often matched the colors of the original Famicom cartridges. But in North America, all the games in this series came in light gray cartridges, just like the original NES games.

Games in the Series

All the games in the Classic NES Series were published by Nintendo.

Nintendo's Own Games

Nintendo released 18 of its own games in this series. Some of these games were already available to play on the Game Boy Advance in other ways:

  • Some games could be played through the Animal Crossing game on the GameCube. You needed a special cable to connect your GameCube to your Game Boy Advance.
  • The Nintendo e-Reader was an accessory for the Game Boy Advance. You could scan special cards to play NES games.
