Super Mario Bros. is a very famous video game created by Nintendo in 1985. It was first played on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). This game is a follow-up to an earlier game called Mario Bros..

In Super Mario Bros., the hero Mario goes on an adventure in the Mushroom Kingdom. His main goal is to save Princess Toadstool, who is now known as Princess Peach, from the evil Bowser. If two people play, the second player can control Mario's brother, Luigi. The game was designed by Shigeru Miyamoto, and the music was made by Kōji Kondō.

Super Mario Bros. was a very important game. It changed how many video games were made after it. For a long time, it was the best-selling video game ever. It helped make Mario a worldwide symbol and made the NES console very popular. This game greatly helped the video game industry grow.

Story of Super Mario Bros.

The main story of Super Mario Bros. is about rescuing Princess Toadstool. The evil King Bowser has kidnapped her. Mario, with help from his brother Luigi, must travel through eight different worlds. They need to chase Bowser across the Mushroom Kingdom to bring the princess home safely.

How to Play Super Mario Bros.

Super Mario Bros. is a platform game. This means you control Mario as he runs, jumps, and walks through each level. Your goal is to reach the end of the level. The game is full of enemies, platforms, and open holes. If Mario touches an enemy, falls into a hole, or misses a jump, he loses a life.

Mario can find special "power-ups" to help him.

  • A red and white Mushroom makes Mario grow big. If he is big and touches an enemy, he just shrinks back to normal size instead of losing a life.
  • If Mario is big and hits a block with a power-up, a Fire Flower might appear. Picking up a Fire Flower turns Mario into Fire Mario. This lets him throw fireballs to defeat enemies. If Fire Mario gets hit, he goes back to being small Mario.

Each world in the game has four levels. Some levels are underground, and others are underwater. When Mario is underwater, he cannot jump on enemies. He will shrink or lose a life if he touches one.

The fourth level of each world is always a castle. In these castles, Mario faces dangers like lava pits, spinning fire bars, and other tough enemies. At the end of the castle level, Mario meets Bowser. Bowser usually stands over a pit of lava. Mario can defeat Bowser by throwing fireballs at him. Another way is to jump over or run under Bowser to reach an axe. Touching the axe breaks the bridge, making Bowser fall into the lava.

After defeating Bowser in the first seven castles, Toad, one of Princess Peach's servants, tells Mario that the princess is in another castle. The real Bowser and the actual princess are only found in the eighth and final castle.

Impact of Super Mario Bros.

Super Mario Bros. was a very important game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It was one of the first games sold with the NES console. This game, often bundled with Duck Hunt, helped the NES sell over 40 million units. There was even a special version of the game that came with Duck Hunt and World Class Track Meet for use with the NES Power Glove.
