Toad is a super friendly character from Nintendo's famous Super Mario Bros. video games. He is Princess Peach's special helper and a good friend to Mario and Luigi.

Toad first appeared in the original Super Mario Bros. game, but he didn't have a name back then! Later, he became a character you could play as in Super Mario Bros. 2. You can also find him in many other popular games like Mario Kart, Super Mario 64, and Super Mario Galaxy. He even looks a lot like the blue Toad in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

On the Super Mario Super Show TV series, Toad often gave Mario helpful information or even Power Stars. He was a regular character on the show, always ready to help his friends. The actor John Stocker was the voice of Toad on the TV show. Toad looks like a small person with a big, red-spotted mushroom on his head, which looks like a hat. He also wears a vest and shoes.

How Toad Was Created

Toad and his mushroom-headed friends first appeared in the very first Super Mario Bros. game. The way Toad looks was inspired by the Super Mushroom power-up and all the other mushrooms found in the game.

Shigeru Miyamoto, who created the Mario series, wanted Toad to have a simple design. He also wanted Toad to look cute and friendly, so everyone would like him. In the game's story, the peaceful Toads of the Mushroom Kingdom were turned into things like bricks and pipes by the evil King Bowser. But some of Princess Peach's loyal helpers, called "Mushroom Retainers," were just kidnapped.

When Nintendo was making New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the creators thought about which characters players could choose. Fans had suggested characters like Princess Peach, Toad, Wario, and Waluigi. In the end, two Toads, one yellow and one blue, were chosen to be playable. This was because they looked similar to Mario and Luigi, making them easy to add to the game.

Toad's Look

Toad is known for his unique appearance. He is a small, humanoid character. His most famous feature is his large, round head, which looks exactly like a red and white mushroom cap. This isn't a hat he can take off in most games; it's part of him! He usually wears a blue or sometimes red vest with a yellow trim. He also has white pants and brown shoes. His friendly face and big, round eyes make him easily recognizable to fans.
