Story of Super Mario Galaxy
The game starts with Bowser doing what he does best: kidnapping Princess Peach! This time, he uses a huge fleet of flying ships. He even pulls Peach's whole castle right out of the ground! Mario tries to hold on, but one of Bowser's helpers knocks him off. Mario floats off into space, unconscious.
When Mario wakes up, he is on a strange planet. He meets a cute, star-like creature called a Luma. Mario plays hide-and-seek with the Luma and its friends. After finding all the Lumas, the first Luma leads Mario to a woman in blue robes. Her name is Rosalina.
Rosalina travels through space in her special mobile Observatory. She explains that Bowser stole the Grand Stars. These stars give her Observatory its power. Mario learns that he must follow Bowser into outer space. He needs to find Power Stars and Grand Stars. His goal is to defeat Bowser and save Princess Peach. Luckily, he gets help from the Lumas, launch stars, and the friendly Toad Brigade.
How to Play Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy has gameplay similar to Super Mario 64. You use the Wii Remote to control Mario. Mario can do a special "Star Spin" attack. He can also jump from one planet to another. This is a big part of the game's fun!
The creator of the Mario games, Shigeru Miyamoto, was the director for this game. He gave Mario many new moves he had never had before.
Special Features
In Super Mario Galaxy, you collect things called "Star Bits." They are like the "shines" from Super Mario Sunshine or the "stars" from Super Mario 64. You can use Star Bits to help you move forward in the game. They can also stun enemies. You collect them by pointing your Wii Remote at them. If you collect 50 Star Bits, Mario gets an extra life!
The way coins work also changed in this game. In earlier Mario games, you got a life for every 100 coins. In Galaxy, you only need 50 coins to get a life. Also, you won't get a star for collecting 100 normal coins in a level. Instead, after you beat Bowser for the last time, you can go back to a level. There, you can choose a "Purple Comet" star. Then, you try to collect 100 purple coins (not normal ones) to earn a star!
