This is a list of characters from Georgia Byng's Molly Moon series of children's novels. The series includes Molly Moon's Incredible Book of Hypnotism, Molly Moon Stops the World, Molly Moon's Hypnotic Time-Travel Adventure, Molly Moon, Micky Minus and the Mind Machine, Molly Moon and the Morphing Mystery, and Molly Moon and the Monster Music.
Main Characters
Who is Molly Moon?
Molly Moon is the main character of the series. She is an intelligent 11-year-old orphan. She has curly brown hair and large, green eyes that can hypnotize people. Molly also has a "potato nose" and likes eating ketchup sandwiches. In the movie, Raffey Cassidy plays Molly.
Molly got her name because she was found on the doorstep of Hardwick House orphanage. She was in a "Moon's Marshmallows" box. A nanny, Ms. Trinklebury, first named her Lolly. But the headmistress, Ms. Adderstone, changed it to Molly.
Throughout the books, Molly learns many amazing skills. She learns to hypnotize people and animals. She can also stop time, travel through time, read minds, and even change her shape!
Who is Micky Minus?
Micky Minus is Molly Moon's twin brother. He was named Micky because of a hospital tag he wore. This tag said "St. Michael's Hospital."
Like Molly, Micky has strong hypnotic abilities. In the future, his powers are used by a large empire. To keep him from rebelling, Princess Fang and Miss Cribbins trick him. They make him believe he is very sick and needs their medicine. His original last name, Minus, even suggested he was worthless.
Later, Micky changes his last name to Moon to match his sister.
Who is Petula?
Petula is Molly's cute and blue pet pug. She is a very important character in the series. Petula used to belong to Miss Agnes Adderstone. Molly rescued her from the orphanage.
Before Molly, Petula was grumpy and lazy. But after Molly hypnotized her, Petula became kind and caring. She even learned to hypnotize herself! In the third book, Petula learned to freeze time, just like Molly. This skill even saved Molly's life once.
In Molly Moon, Micky Minus and the Mind Machine, Petula helped Molly a lot. She hypnotized an evil pet to help Molly get into a special room. She also helped save Molly's brother, Micky, and Lily Black.
Who is Forest?
Forest is Sinclair Cell's yoga teacher. He is a stereotypical hippie with dreadlocks. He loves meditating.
Forest plays a smaller role in books 2 and 5. But he is one of the main characters in book 3. Even though he has a unique personality, he is very wise. He taught Molly a lot about meditation, which helped her in book 2. He also gave useful ideas about time travel in book 3.
Who is Ojas?
Ojas is a boy from India, from the year 1870. He has green eyes, like Molly, and a straight nose. He follows the Hindu religion. After his parents died, he had to steal to survive.
Molly first met Ojas in book three. He stole her special crystals, which she needed for time travel. They made a deal, and he returned them. Soon, they became good friends. Ojas is a main character in book three. He only appears briefly in book 4. His English is almost perfect.
Who is Rocky Scarlet?
Rocky Scarlet is Molly's best friend. He has many friends and first appears in Molly Moon's Incredible Book of Hypnotism. Rocky has some talent in hypnotism, especially using only his voice. He has played an important role in the books.
Main Villains
Who is Professor Simon Nockman?
Simon Nockman, also known as Professor Nockman, is a chubby man. He often looks messy and wears a gold scorpion necklace. He has "bulbous" eyes and greasy black hair. He doesn't shower much, so he uses cologne to hide smells. This gives him a terrible odor.
Simon Nockman became cruel at a young age. His pet bird was caught in a rat trap. His parents didn't comfort him; his mother even laughed. Because of this, he became a hateful person. Since then, he has committed many crimes.
At age eleven, he learned to steal. As an adult, he tricked an old lady into giving him her life savings. She thought it was for a stray dog home. With that money, he bought warehouses in Manhattan. He started a business dealing in smuggled goods.
After a bank incident, Rocky hypnotized him to be kind. Molly also hypnotized him to have a German accent. This was so the police wouldn't recognize his original Chicago accent.
Molly wanted him to be a better person. She told him he could get a pet bird every time he did a good deed. Between the first and second books, he earned twenty birds by doing good things. His German accent faded by the end of book 2. He now speaks in his original Chicago accent.
At the end of book 2, Nockman and Miss Trinklebury got engaged.
Who is Primo Cell?
Primo Cell is Molly and Micky's father. He is a hypnotist and has a good heart. However, he was hypnotized by Lucy Logan. Lucy was hypnotized by Cornelius Logan, who was hypnotized by the Maharaja of Waqt. Primo was controlled to manage celebrities and become president. He was also meant to build a time-traveling crystal mine for his master.
Primo became very rich from his brands and products while under control. He ran for American president and even won the election. But he stepped down after Molly freed him from the hypnotism. Primo changed a lot after being released. He felt very sorry for what he had done. He even told Molly that he felt lonely and had no real friends.
Who is the Maharaja of Waqt?
The Maharaja of Waqt is a man who loves power. He kidnaps 11-year-old Molly and her dog Petula from the twenty-first century. The Maharaja lives in 1870 India. He is large and scaly because he has traveled through time so much. He is the villain of Molly Moon's Hypnotic Time-Travel Adventure.
Waqt had a strange way of speaking. He spoke in "spoonerisms", which means he got his words mixed up. For example, he might say "frack to bunt" instead of "back to front."
To scare Molly, Waqt kidnapped younger versions of Molly (aged 1, 3, 6, and 10). He also took Petula as a puppy, and Rocky and Forest from Molly's time. His real name is unknown. The word 'Waqt' means 'time' in Hindi.
After Molly escapes, she learns that time travel can make skin dry and wrinkly. She finds a way to go to the "Bubble of Light" at the beginning of time. This bubble makes anyone who enters it younger.
Molly brings Waqt back in time. She shows him her secret to quick time travel. Then, she leaves him in a different time with only plants. He can only return to his time when he learns to love others. His crystal will then "open," allowing faster time travel.
Who is Princess Fen Fang Feng Fong Yang Yong Yin Ying Kai-Ying Qingling?
Also known as Princess Fang, this dangerous character is the villain of book 4. On the outside, she looks like an excited, super-smart six-year-old. She is supposedly a descendant of brilliant scientists from the twenty-sixth century. But in reality, she is a vain, sixty-year-old nightmare.
Princess Fang traveled to the Bubble of Light at the beginning of time. She was obsessed with beauty. This made her look like a child, but parts of her brain also became childlike. She surrounded herself with childish toys. Princess Fang lives in Mont Blanc.
Using hypnotists who could time travel, Fang kidnapped Molly Moon's twin brother. She also hypnotized everyone in Mont Blanc. Fang has a dangerous machine that can take knowledge from one person's mind and put it into another's. Like the Maharaja of Waqt, Princess Fang has a speech problem. She says her 'r's as 'w's and her 'th's as 'f's. This makes her sound even more like a child.
At the end of the book, Molly Moon and Rocky hypnotize her and all her staff.
Who are Miss Hunroe and her followers?
Miss Hunroe and her followers, Miss Teryaki, Miss Speal, Miss Suzette, and Miss Oakkton, are villains from Molly Moon and the Morphing Mystery. At first, they seem good. They trick Molly and Micky by saying they are trying to stop a man named Theobald Black. They send Molly and Micky to stop him. But Theobald Black actually funds orphanages. He is not the cunning con-man they claim.
As the book goes on, they are revealed to be witches. They want to control the weather using four mysterious Logan Stones. They also planned to steal a book from Mr. Black called Hypnotism, Volume Two: The Advanced Arts. Miss Hunroe wanted to learn how to change into other humans, a skill she didn't have.
Miss Hunroe cannot read minds. She knew about Molly Moon and much of her life. Miss Hunroe was a popular woman who enjoyed having followers. It is suggested she was always a "bully." She had a condition that made her hate everyone but herself. Her followers desperately wanted her love and attention. Miss Hunroe used this to her advantage.

Who is Agnes Adderstone?
Miss Agnes Adderstone is a very thin, mean woman with false teeth. She is the headmistress of the Hardwick House Orphanage. She dislikes children, especially babies. She particularly hates Molly Moon. Later, Molly hypnotizes her to love planes and flying.
Agnes was not in Book 2. She returned in Book 3 when Molly traveled back in time.
Who is Edna?
Edna is the grumpy cook at Hardwick House. She used to be a sailor in the Navy. People rumored she had a sailor tattoo on her thigh. Molly later hypnotizes her to love Italian cooking and Italy. Molly also makes Edna favor her. Edna then cooks good food for all the orphans. But she serves very spicy food to Mrs. Adderstone, Hazel Hackersly, and Hazel's friends.
Who is Davina Nuttel?
Davina Nuttel is a spoiled child star. She is not particularly pretty. Molly Moon took her lead role in the show Stars on Mars. Davina has dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. She has a weak ability to hypnotize, but she doesn't know it. She sometimes uses her hypnotism to get what she wants.
After Molly left New York, Davina got her part back. In the second book, Primo Cell kidnapped her.
Who is Mrs. Trinklebury?
Mrs. Trinklebury is a kind, stuttering old widow. She is from the village of Hardwick. She raised Molly and Rocky when they were babies. After they grew older, she only came once a week to clean. After the Shorings Bank incident, she left the orphanage for good. It is also revealed that she was an orphan herself.
In the second book, she and Nockman fell in love and got engaged.
Who is Mrs. Toadley?
Mrs. Toadley is a chubby, partly bald woman with a "blubbery-face." She is Molly and Rocky's teacher. She is known for having sneezing fits when she gets upset. This allowed Molly and Rocky to copy each other's answers. All her students strongly dislike her.
At the start of Book 1, Molly hypnotizes her. Mrs. Toadley then tells everyone she is a terrible teacher, which gets her fired.
Who are the Orphanage Children?
There are seven other children at Hardwick House besides Molly and Rocky:
- Hazel Hackersly: A thirteen-year-old girl. She has a whiny voice and is favored by Miss Adderstone. While Molly and Rocky were away, she took over Miss Adderstone's bedroom. Her parents were actors who didn't care for her. Hazel was mean to Molly because she was jealous that Molly and Rocky had Mrs. Trinklebury's love. In the second book, she dyes her hair blonde and gets a small part in an American film.
- Roger Fibbin: A twelve-year-old boy. He is Hazel Hackersly's spy. While Molly and Rocky were away, he took over the sanitorium. In the second book, Molly restored him after he was hypnotized.
- Ruby Able: A five-year-old girl. She is one of the few people who is nice to Molly at Hardwick House.
- Jinx Eames: A five-year-old boy. He is good friends with Ruby.
- Gordon Boils: The second oldest at Hardwick House. He invented nicknames for Molly like 'Drono' and 'Bog Eyes'. These names turned out to be key abilities for hypnotists. He is very strong.
- Gerry Oakley: Best friend of Gemma. He is six years old in the first book. He loves mice and has 10 of them.
- Gemma Patel: Best friend of Gerry. She is seven years old in the first book. At the end of the first book, Gemma tells Molly everything that happened at Hardwick House. She also found the hypnotism book in Book 2.
Who is Cornelius Logan?
Cornelius Logan is the twin brother of Lucy Logan. He is a brilliant hypnotist. He hypnotized and controlled Primo Cell for eleven years. He wanted Primo to become President of America so he could rule the world. He stole Molly and put her in the orphanage because he was jealous of Lucy's happiness. Molly later hypnotized Cornelius to believe he was a lamb. In the third book, it was revealed that the Maharaja of Waqt had controlled Cornelius since he was very young.
Who is Lucy Logan?
Lucy Logan is the great-granddaughter of Dr. Logan, who wrote the hypnotism book Molly found. In the first book, she is a librarian. She plays a big role in helping Molly discover her hypnotic talent. In the second book, it was revealed that her twin brother, Cornelius Logan, had hypnotized and controlled her for eleven years. It was also revealed in the third book that Lucy Logan is the mother of Molly and Micky Logan. Her husband is Primo Cell.
Who is Sinclair Cell?
Sinclair was an orphan. Until age four, he and his sister Sally were cared for by a circus ringleader. This ringleader was a powerful hypnotist. Primo Cell hypnotized the ringleader and his wife, who became gardeners at Cell's mansion. Primo also adopted Sinclair and Sally. Sinclair pretended to love Primo as a father, but he always hated him. Loving Primo was the only way Sinclair wouldn't be hypnotized.
Sinclair appears in book 2, Molly Moon Stops the World. He saved Molly and Rocky's lives. He hypnotized them for seven and a half months to keep them safe from Primo Cell. Once released, Molly, Rocky, and Sinclair hypnotized Primo. Sinclair is described as fit and tanned, with shoulder-length blonde hair and blue eyes.
Who is Lily Black?
Lily Black is a minor hero from book 5. She is a bit spoiled and sulky. She has black curly hair and blue eyes. She is determined and wants to be part of the action. She is annoyed that her father won't teach her hypnotism. She plays an important role in the book's plot, especially in the second half.
Who is Nurse Meekles?
Nurse Meekles is a kind and friendly woman at the palace where Princess Fang ruled. She always respected Molly and had watched Micky when he was very young. Nurse Meekles helped the twins escape using a secret laundry chute. Her husband is Axel, also known as Professor Selkeem. Her first name is Ai Mu.
Who is Professor Selkeem/Axel?
Professor Selkeem, also known as Axel, was once a good hypnotist and a child genius. He is the husband of Nurse Meekles. He lost his hypnotic abilities from traveling to the Bubble of Light too often. His skin is described as being like leather. He often drinks tomato juice, which Molly mistakes for blood. He also eats rotten eggs and moldy toast. He is said to keep shriveled hearts in his treehouse laboratory, but they are just sun-dried tomatoes.
He always speaks in riddles and rhymes and likes talking to himself. After he lost his hypnotic skills and his mind, Princess Fang found him ugly. He was sent to live with the Zooeys, who were mutated former royalty, as his servants. There, he did harmless but crazy experiments. He has pet "dognakes" (snakes with Labrador heads), and his favorite is Schnapps. He hates Princess Fang and deeply distrusts Wildgust, a member of the mutated Royal family.
His true intentions are misunderstood for much of the story.
